With all living beings, whether human or canine, health issues and\nillnesses can occur.  BGVs come from long established rustic stock bred\nfor work therefore, overall,\nthey are robust and healthy hounds with few problems.  However, this is not to\nsay they do not exist.  As with any breed (or even crossbreeds) some health issues have\narisen.

The BGV Club would like to hear about any health conditions that your dog may have had or any current\nhealth problems. General data will be used by the BGV Club to help determine whether any health problems\nneed researching for the future and to provide help and support for owners and breeders.\nThis Information will be confidential to the BGV Club Health Sub-Committee and Club Secretary following\nGDPR requirements. The BGV Club has a Health Sub-Committee which takes\nbreed health extremely seriously and works hard on your behalf.  The\nSub-Committee reports directly to the main Committee and, if there is evidence\nof any growing health problem in the breed, immediate action is taken to\ninvestigate.  For many years, the Club worked closely with the Animal Health Trust, who\ngathered DNA samples etc.,\non our behalf, allowing known problems to be researched thoroughly and\nsteps to be taken to eradicate them from the breed.  Closure of the AHT in\nJuly 2020 and pending the new Canine Genetics arrangements the Club's efforts\ncontinue to progress work towards this aim.<\/p>\n

BREED HEALTH  AND CONSERVATION PLAN <\/h1>\n

BREED\nHEALTH AND\nCONSERVATION PLAN 
The Breed Health and Conservation Plan\nensures that all health concerns are identified through evidence-based\ncriteria. The plans provide breeders with useful information and resources to\nsupport them in making balanced breeding decisions that make health a priority.

It takes a complete view of\nbreed health and includes information about:
  \u00b7  known inherited conditions \n
  \u00b7  complex conditions (i.e. those involving many genes and environmental effects\nsuch as nutrition or exercise levels)
  \u00b7  conformational concerns
  \u00b7  population genetics 
\n
This project is run by, and in\ncollaboration with, The Kennel Club with the aim of gathering all available\nhealth information and data and compiling it into a single document. This in\nturn forms a basis to\ncreate a strategy to tackle any health priorities in the PBGV and GBGV.\n <\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n
